Newbigging Outdoor Centre
Opened in 1988 this attractive holiday centre, incorporates a
substantial stone built house, sheltered garden and a spacious
campsite. It is located in a quiet rural area approximately 7
miles south of Blairgowrie and 20 miles from the skiing and hill
walking areas of Glenshee, with the Sidlaw Hills only 3 miles to
the south.
Designed by Guides for Guides, the Holiday House and Campsite
are ideal for all age groups providing a comfortable base for a
wide range of activities such as camps, pack holidays, Guide
training weekends for indoor and outdoor pursuits, Ranger
adventure weekends, Young Leader and Guider Trainings, Trefoil
Guild outings - the list is endless!

Holiday House
Fully equipped for 24 girls plus 6 leaders, the house offers the
following facilities:
Large Hall - for all activities and dining, furnished with
tables and chairs.
There is use of a
parachute &
various games
Kitchen - all electric and well equipped for 30 people with
domestic and catering cookers, fridge freezer
and microwave.
Sleeping accommodation
Girls - 3 dormitories each sleeping 8 (bunk beds)
Leaders - 1 room
sleeping 4 (bunk beds) and
1 room sleeping 2
(single beds)
All beds have
mattresses, duvets and pillows
From June 2012 –
mattresses and pillows will be provided, girls to bring own
bedding including fitted sheet, pillowcase and duvet or sleeping
bag. We no longer provide Duvets after June 2012.
Toilet and washing facilities
There are 6 toilets (1 suitable for disabled), 5 wash hand
basins and 3 showers.
Electricity
Electricity for immersion heater, cooking and lighting is
included but there are pre-payment meters for heating and
sockets.
Payphone
Available for the use of campers in an emergency.
The
centre has a large garden with swings and a barbecue. Near the
main door there is a play shelter.
These are normally for the exclusive use of those staying in the
house.

Campsite
The
campsite extends to 3 acres and enjoys uninterrupted views of
the Sidlaws.
It
can be used either equipped or unequipped.
Fully
equipped site – both lightweight (9, 8, 6 x7, 4, 3, 2 man tents)
and Icelandic tents; 2 activity tents, dining shelter and a
marquee 20 sq.ft).
Equipment
This
is available for 5 patrols as well as for central cooking. Fire
shelters, alter fires and wood are supplied.
Also available are
gas
stoves, flagpole, pioneering poles and various games.
Facilities
On
site there are two water taps. Toilet and shower block suitable
for disabled and a drying room.
Wet weather accommodation
The
annexe comprises a camp store and a room 6.5m x 5m) with chairs
and tables.
It
also has electricity, cold water, an
electric water boiler and fridge-freezer.
If the holiday house
is not booked the kitchen and hall may be used at a nominal cost
by arrangement with the
booking
secretary.
Backwoodsman cooking
There is a designated area next to the car park which may be
used for backswoodman cooking, also a sunken fireplace on the
campsite for campfires. The barbecue in the garden may be used
by campers by arrangement with Leaders using the holiday house.

A great new campfire
circle was opened by Dinah Faulds, Scottish County Commissioner
on the 11th June 2011. A commemorative plaque, in
memory of Jennifer Adams, was also unveiled. Seating for up to
100 members. Its ready for beautiful singing.
