Guide Shop update and thank you

At the end of our first term back in the Dundee Guide Shop, we wanted to say a huge “Thank You” to all our customers. Despite only having one group in the building at once, we have managed to supply uniforms to lots of Guiding and Scouting members of all ages, and equip units with handbooks, badges and other resources.

We’re taking a well-earned breather, before returning on Wednesday 27th October.

We also wanted to share an update from our supplier, the Edinburgh Guide shop. They are doing a fantastic job under very difficult circumstances, and as they say “It has been a truly mad time here in the Girlguiding world as two years of pent-up demand finally exploded”.

They are operating on minimal staffing in Edinburgh, and in common with the entire retail sector, are experiencing severe supply-chain disruption. Stock of key lines from both Girlguiding and Scouts has been severely affected by the global problems. And the number of unavailable lines seems to grow daily, with some items of uniform not expected back in stock until the New Year. And even when items are in stock, we are all finding that courier services are currently stretched beyond breaking point, so that their orders are frequently delayed or go on strange detours around the country.

The 2021 Remembrance woven badge is about to go out of stock nationally, and there won’t be any more. There is an undated badge from a few years ago, now available at a reduced price

Woven badge (shown) – code 7722 now 60p

Metal badge – code 7723 now 90p

They, like us, urge you all to plan ahead as best you can as we approach the festive period. It is highly likely that last minute order fulfilment will become almost impossible in the run up to Christmas.

Christmas 2021 items available to order:

Girlguiding Christmas woven badge – code 2319 £1

Girlguiding Christmas bauble – code 2320 £5

Girlguiding cards (6 pack) – code 2321 £3

Girlguiding Scotland Christmas badge – to follow

Please continue to support us – remember that all profits from the shop benefit young people in our area. We encourage you not to buy from uniforms from Amazon or other non-Girlguiding sources - those items may well cost more, and don’t benefit the city in any way.

  • there’s no need to book an appointment or order ahead but customers might want to check stock (see below)

  • we can order any item listed on the Girlguiding or Girlguiding Scotland online shop, including some great ideas for Christmas and birthday presents

  • you can call us during our opening hours to check stock availability

  • you can place orders by email

If the shop hours don’t suit you we will try to arrange to get paid-for orders to you via our unit leaders, and our click and collect network.

Many thanks again to everyone who has been supporting us, and we look forward to seeing you again after the October break – opening hours and contact details are on the Guide Shop web page.
