My name is Eilidh, I volunteer as a member of the PR team for Girlguiding Dundee. I
attended the Challenge Cup to capture photographs of the girls participating in
different activities to display on our social media pages.
The Challenge Cup was an event for Guides across Dundee and was held in St Andrews. The Challenge Cup was a detective-style mystery, where the girls became investigators to eliminate potential suspects, sort through evidence and follow a trail of clues as they explored St Andrews. The event coincided with the Next Stop Adventure public transport takeover day, 16th May 2026. This saw girls from all over Scotland use public transport.
I spent the day with the 30th B Dundee Guides. Starting off at The Band Stand, Guide units came together to start the competition, our brilliant organisers created a sense of anticipation and friendly competition which set the tone for the day ahead. You could feel the buzz of excitement as the competition began.
Our first stop led us to the R&A World Golf Museum to find Tiger Woods’ bronze face. Then along to Old Tom Morris Historic House, which led us to the West Port Gate and onwards to Blackfriars Chapel where we stopped for lunch. Along the way, the girls worked as a team to uncover names and dates to help eliminate evidence and suspects. The clues led us to the seafront for a lovely costal walk towards the centre of St Andrews, where the girls excitably hunted to solve the last few clues.
We were fortunate to have sunny, warm weather, creating an enjoyable day for exploring. Once all the clues had been found, the girls were able to solve the mystery. The girls were so delighted that they ran all the way to the finish line.
My favourite photograph of the day was when the girls all got some ice cream, creating a sense of relaxation after a long day of exploring. The girls enjoyed their ice cream and then headed back to The Band Stand for the winners to be announced. A big congratulations to the 34th Dundee Guides, the winners with the highest overall score with a close second place with the fastest time but not the highest overall score was the 2nd Monifieth Guides.
Overall, helping the Guides explore St Andrews and solve the clues allowed me to gain responsibility, learn how to support older children and meet other volunteers from within Girlguiding to hear their stories and learn from their experiences.
Thank you to all the volunteers that made this possible and a big thank you to Stagecoach buses who helped us with our travels.
