Our new PR team member, Eilidh, joined the Girlguiding Dundee contingent who took part in Cityscapes Glasgow in March 2026. She writes:
"My name is Eilidh, I volunteer as a member of the PR team for Girlguiding Dundee. I
attended Cityscapes Glasgow to capture photographs of the girls participating in
different activities to display on our social media pages. As a new volunteer, I was
excited to improve my photography skills and to become more involved in the
Girlguiding community.
Cityscapes Glasgow was a UK-wide event held on Saturday 21st March, allowing girls from every age range in Girlguiding to participate in a range of challenges to win points and compete in friendly competition. It was a fun and educational event that allowed me to explore Glasgow and participate in a multitude of activities.
I enjoyed using the Goosechase app to search for landmarks and complete a range of tasks with both the Brownies and the Guides. It was rewarding to see the girls full of excitement as they found the different landmarks and increased their score, capturing their reactions throughout the day created the best photographs.
We had sunny and warm weather, making it enjoyable to spend more time outdoors and find landmarks, including the ship at the Merchants House and the Monument of Maternity. Seeing these landmarks reminded me of Glasgow’s rich history and created an added challenge for the girls as we explored the city.
I captured my favourite photograph of the day when the girls were on the low-Level train on the way to the SEC. You could feel the excitement in the atmosphere as they got on the train and sat all together on the way to take part in parkour and team-building exercises at the SEC.
In addition, the range of challenges the girls participated in such as designing their own badges, creating origami and taking part in parkour, kept them busy and engaged, which created a lively atmosphere throughout the day.
Overall, helping the girls to explore Glasgow in such a fun and interactive way,
allowed me to gain responsibility, improve my photography skills and develop
confidence when helping take care of children in a non-formal setting. I also enjoyed
working alongside the other volunteers and learning from their experience.
The event was filled with engaging challenges throughout the day which showed how valuable these opportunities are for the girls and the volunteers, and I look forward to participating in similar events in the future as well as growing my role within the PR team."
Thanks to all the volunteers who made this event happen, and Ember buses who got us there and back safely.
