My name is Eilidh, and I volunteer as a member of the PR team for Girlguiding Dundee. I attended the County Walk to capture photographs of the girls and our volunteers for our social media pages. The County Walk was held on Saturday, the 23rd of May, where Brownies and Rainbows came together to complete a trail around Camperdown Country Park.
We started off at the eastern side of the park, where the leaders gave out tasks for the girls to complete on their walk. Their task was to find something during the trail for each letter of the alphabet. The girls worked together to complete their worksheets, spotting tree for T, pinecone for P and fern for F. Along the walk, the girls picked up many sticks to accompany us on the trail. The girls happily chatted along the way and were curious about the different plants we found, which created a lively atmosphere. Along the way, we crossed many bridges, where trolls were discussed but never found.
We saw many sights along the trail, including some monkeys in the distance at Camperdown Wildlife Centre, as well as the Camperdown Park house.
My favourite photograph was of some of our Brownies leading the walk. Their enthusiasm radiated through the rest of the group. They led the way throughout the entire trail and were successful in completing the majority of their worksheet.
We were fortunate to have warm, sunny weather, which kept spirits high. The trail led us back to the Eastern side of the park, where we ended our County Walk. Afterwards, we sat down to enjoy our packed lunches together and had the opportunity to chat about the lovely weather and share how we got on with the worksheets.
Overall, the County Walk highlighted Girlguiding’s mission to help girls experience the outdoors, work together, and be adventurous. Events like County Walk allow the girls to have fun with their friends while gaining confidence in their strengths and abilities. I understand the importance of these values and look forward to attending more events like this in the future.
Thank you to all the volunteers who made this possible.
