Over 300 young members of Girlguiding Dundee celebrated 100 years of World Thinking Day together at Ward Road Gym on Sunday 22nd February.
Back in 1926, delegates from Guide and Girl Scout organisations across the world met in the USA for their 4th world conference. They decided to create a day to think about each other around the world and celebrate being part of an international movement. They chose 22nd February for World Thinking Day as it was the joint birthday of Olave Baden-Powell, the first ever chief guide and her husband Robert, the founder of Scouting.
100 years later, we celebrated by taking part in activities based around this year’s theme “Our Friendship”. We made friendship bracelets, designed neckerchiefs and took part in other crafts celebrating friendship around the world.
The afternoon ended up with a promise renewal ceremony.
County Commissioner Amy Knighton said “World Thinking Day is an important day for Girlguiding, when we remember we are part of a huge organisation, with 10 million members worldwide. We brought together girls from all corners of Girlguiding Dundee, including Monifieth, Invergowrie and Muirhead to share the joy of friendship.”
One of the leaders said "Our girls had a great afternoon and have already asked to make these bracelets on our next holiday".
